General Shop  – 3rd shift available

A Brief Summary of This Position

Works under the supervision of the Operations Manager or Shop Supervisor with the guidance of a lead person or Production Machinist. Primary function is to perform assembly, material handling, shipping, packaging, painting and other general production work. This position works as part of a team and as an individual for other assignments. This position uses hand tools, air-operated tools, banding equipment, forklifts as well as some other automated equipment for assembly and packaging. Automated paint equipment is used for painting and priming. General Shop Help will need to use a computer to report production and interface with the machines. In-process quality checks are performed using micrometers, calipers, dial gauges, indicators, torque wrenches, and other gauges. General Shop Help perform material handling, loading and unloading of trucks, storage and removal of material from warehouse racks as well as material transactions using a computer. They will perform daily Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) on equipment, as well as daily and periodic 5S (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, sustain) tasks. This employee is also expected to participate in department improvement teams including, but not limited to, Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED), Lean, safety and quality to help meet department goals. Incumbent uses and maintains the KANBAN system, which is a Lean or Just-In-Time scheduling system for production and material flow.

Essential Functions

  • Perform assembly, shipping, packaging and other general production work in a manufacturing environment
  • Operate hand tools, air-operated tools, banding equipment, forklifts, pallet wrapper, and other automated equipment
  • Operate automated painting equipment for painting and priming, including performing daily maintenance and equipment cleaning
  • Stand and walk throughout the shift at the assembly line
  • Operate all stations of the assembly and paint lines to meet production requirements
  • Use a computer to report production information and interface with machines
  • Perform in-process quality checks using micrometers, calipers, dial gauges, indicators, torque wrenches, and other gauges
  • Handle material, load and unload trucks, and store and remove material from warehouse racks
  • Work well as a team member including communicate in a positive manner

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • 1 year of relevant work experience
  • A working knowledge of using e-mail
  • One year of previous work experience operating hand and/or power tools
  • The ability to stand or walk throughout the shift
  • The ability to safely move objects weighing 40 to 50 pounds frequently throughout the shift
