Seed Corn Processing Technician – Temp to Hire – Monday through Friday 6:00 am to 3:00 pm and in September hours change to 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm – Possible weekends and overtime

Job Summary:

We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated Seed Corn Processing Technician to join our seed production team. This role focuses on sizing, cleaning, and preparing seed corn for treating and packaging. The position requires precision and adherence to protocols to ensure high-quality seed corn for agricultural use.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and sort seed corn to remove debris, defective kernels, or off-types.
  • Operate specialized equipment, such as gravity tables, air screen cleaners, and sizing machinery, to process seed corn.
  • Grade seed corn based on size, shape, and germination quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with seed certification standards and industry regulations.
  • Package processed seed corn for storage or distribution, maintaining varietal purity.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of processing equipment to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Record detailed production data, including batch quantities, quality metrics, and lot numbers.
  • Collaborate with team members to meet production schedules and maintain seed quality.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; agricultural or seed production experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with seed corn processing equipment and techniques is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure seed purity and quality.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Basic math and record-keeping skills for accurate documentation.
  • Knowledge of seed certification standards or willingness to learn.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  1. Seed Quality Assurance
    • Achieve 98% or higher seed purity by effectively removing debris, defective kernels, and off-types during cleaning and sorting.
    • Ensure seed corn meets size, shape, and germination standards as per company and industry certification requirements.
    • Minimize seed loss during processing to maintain a yield loss rate below 2%.
  2. Equipment Operation and Maintenance
    • Operate seed processing equipment (e.g., gravity tables, air screen cleaners, sizing machines) with 100% adherence to safety and operational protocols.
    • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment to achieve zero downtime due to preventable malfunctions.
    • Report equipment issues within 1 hour of detection to ensure timely resolution.
  3. Production Efficiency
    • Process an average of [X] tons of seed corn per shift, meeting daily production targets during peak seasons.
    • Complete packaging of processed seed corn lots within allocated timeframes, ensuring accurate labeling and lot tracking.
    • Reduce processing errors (e.g., incorrect sizing or batch mixing) to less than 1% of total batches.

  6. Team Collaboration and Communication
    • Coordinate with team members to meet production schedules, achieving 95% on-time completion of assigned tasks.
